This issue explores recent trends in Irish theatre and theatre culture with a double aim of assessing and disseminating the work of playwrights, directors, companies, in Ireland and among the Irish diaspora. Special attention is given to 21st century Irish theatre and its sense of heritage, its sense of the present, its use of memory, the duty and challenges of recollection and theatre’s capacity for independent action.

Corpus Stylistics is an emerging field in the discipline of Linguistics which has become increasingly popular during the last decades: applying corpus methods and techniques to the stylistic analysis of literary texts seems to be a successful way of making linguistic evidence, style ornamentations, aesthetic choices, manners of expressions or deviations from language norms, more visible to the eyes of the traditional literary critic or, simply, the reader. Translating Italy.Notes on Irish Poets Reading Italian Poetry During the last few years, literary translation has become a relevant part of some Irish writers’ activity. Such poets as Seamus Heaney, Derek Mahon, Paul Muldoon, Eamon Grennan, Desmond O’Grady, among others, sometimes seemed to have been more concerned about translating than about writing. Translation has offered itself as an occasion for literary experimentation, rewriting as well as for learning and discussing about other worlds. A sociocultural perspective – entailing the notion of ‘cultural identity’ – has here been applied to a linguistic analysis of such texts in translation
